Hong Kong SME Financing Preparation Checklist

Before seeking financing, a Hong Kong SME should check company information, funding purpose, required date, current financial records, cash flow and repayment arrangements. This is a preparation checklist, not an indication that any provider will approve an application.

Step 1: Clarify funding purpose and required date

Businesses should clearly explain whether funds are for operations, inventory, equipment, receivables or another genuine purpose, and state the required date. Purpose and date should be consistent with application information and cash-flow explanation; providers still assess independently.

Step 2: Organize checkable company and financial information

Start by organizing company-registration and operating information, recent bank records, management accounts and documents supporting revenue, receivables and cash flow. The Companies Registry provides incorporation and registration services, but providers set the actual document requirements for each product.

Step 3: Explain repayment arrangements and compare terms

Before applying, explain repayment source, existing liabilities and what the business can sustain, then compare rates, fees, terms, early-repayment provisions and follow-up requirements. The HKMA also publishes information on banks’ SME lending services and support; comparison does not guarantee any terms or outcome.
